Streatham-Croyden U15s leave it too late to put Warlingham to the sword
Thanks to the kindness of Warlingham RFC and the dedication of the boys to the club of the league game was played on a frosty but beautiful day at the Limpsfield road club, even though they are only 13 players that makes a game tough but it turns good.
A drowsy start of SCRFC were soon be under fluid attack from Warlingham exploiting space on the wings allowing the home side in to score uncontested tries. Hungry of the ball and failing to land head tackles, heads dropped all round as the home side stress up a scoreline that saw the game end as a competitive fixture before half time.
But, the game momentum change after a while with SCRFC determination to restore their pride. Strong tackling led some of the small player on the pitch and a solid set piece led to territorial possession and attacks that were blunted only by the home sides rugged defense. With an alteration in the attacking plan, SCRFC began to win the second half.
A strong second half from the SCRFC was let down by their first half performance. Heading forward into the season as the boys learn to play together these inconsistencies will hopefully be less obvious and a full performance will be produced that reflects the spirit and work the boys put into their game.
